The gay scene is mainly centered in big cities like Luang Prabang and Vientiane, where few gay-friendly venues exist. The Lao Cafe and the CCC Bar in name are only gay-friendly because the negative attention can always lead to police shutting down the places so they are keeping a discreet profile online. Laos may be one of the most tolerant communist countries, but still is strict when provoked.
Gay life is not illegal in Laos, but no anti discrimination laws are applied either so keeping a discreet profile is always better than drawing unnecessary attention. A VPN is also advised when visiting countries like that, to surf anonymously and maintain your privacy on Grindr or Hornet.
Arrange a tour to explore the beautiful sceneries of waterfalls, underground green pools, archeological sites and holy places. Keep in mind that the entrance to holy sites and temples sometimes require you to have an appropriate dress code. Do not be setback by this minor detail because the beautiful sights are worth it.

People in Lao have a Midnight Curfew so most of the businesses close by 11.30 so they can be at home by 12. Some loops can be found in this Curfew and you will see some avenues still open, but rarely.
