Food Tips

Food Poisoning in Punta Cana is a very common problem, so be aware of what you are eating or drinking. We would recommend you not to eat heavily and visit trust-worthy restaurants.

Paella, locally known as “Locrio”, is a popular dish in the Dominican Republic made of rice prepared with seafood and fish, or with pork meat or chicken.

La Bandera or else “Comida Criolla” is popular traditional dish which is actually a combination of rice, beans, stewed meat, salad and fried plantains usually served with natural juice.

Among the most popular Dominican Republic dishes are The Bandera, Sancocho, Moro, Locrian, Mangu, Plantain and Pica Pollo.

Although taste-wise Punta Cana is a genuine child of the Caribbean, the local dishes are not so intensively spicy. The main seasonings here are coriander, onion, garlic, cumin and oregano.

The culinary experience is completed with the popular local desserts made with sugar and condensed milk, like “dulce de leche” (milk fudge), “majarete”, “arroz con leche”, and “flan”.
