Italy Gay Guide

Apart from its great cuisine, Italy is widely known for its fashion and handsome men, so its great reputation among the gay community was only natural. The Italian gay community is protected by the government while gay civil unions were recognized in 2016. The Catholic Church influences greatly the locals, so there is still conservatism prominent, especially in the countryside.

There is not a particular period to visit Italy since it is packed with destinations that you can visit throughout the year. For winter holidays, we would recommend you to visit Northern Italy, and more specifically in Trentino Area, located nearby the Alps. For summer holidays, you should visit Southern Italy, and more specifically, Sicily Island!

Rome features the most organized gay scene in Italy, packed with amazing gay bars like Coming Out Bar, My Bar and Beige Bar, gay clubs like REBEL Club, K Men Club, Skyline Club and More. The gay scene of Rome is at the center of the city, more particularly, at the gay street nearby the Colosseum.

Milan is all about fashion, so it's naturally a must for every gay traveler who wants to be 'in' and loves the good design. There are various gay events taking place in Milan, however, the gay scene is half as organized as in Rome. The Fashion Weeks turn the city into a big gay hotspot!

Surprisingly, many other cities around Italy feature a  gay scene, some of the best being Bergamo, Bologna, Florence, Naples, Pisa, Turin, Venice and Verona. At these towns, you will find from some cozy gay bars, cruising gay clubs, but most of them are known for their gay saunas!

Since we are talking about a Mediterranean country, it is only natural to refer to its crystal-blue beaches. There are not many publicly known gay-only beaches but the number of secluded and alternative beaches visited mainly by gay audiences is truly surprising. II Buco is a popular gay beach located near Rome!

Last but not least, we are going to talk about a more sensitive gay topic. The gay cruising scene of Italy is pretty well-developed hosting a wide diversity of gay cruising venues, like gay cruising clubs, gay saunas and cruising outdoor hotspots. Major Italian cities like Bergamo, Rome, Naples, Milan, Florence and Bologna usually feature a vivid cruising scene that includes gay cruising clubs and saunas.
