There so many beautiful and jaw-dropping locations across Greece that it would be a shame not to go on honeymoon there. There are over 200 gorgeous islands with pristine beaches and crystal clear water and every single one of them seems like it’s built for you to make memories that will last a lifetime.

Thanks to their ethereal beauty, the Greek islands are among the top destinations in the world for honeymooners. The most romantic place is the island of Santorini, and it’s usually at the top of every couple’s list, but that’s not the only romantic location in Greece.

Pick an island

We’ve already mentioned Santorini as the number one choice for couples, but why spend your honeymoon with hundreds and possibly thousands of other couples, when there are islands just as beautiful as Santorini.

Mykonos is an island north of Santorini famous for the best nightlife scene in Greece. The island attracts world-renowned DJs that keep the party rocking way past dawn. Antiparos is the island of idyllic beaches. You can only get there by boat (from the Paros island), which means that you and your loved one can enjoy your honeymoon away from the crowd.

Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and is full of life. If you want to hike through small cities and visit historical locations while being able to enjoy remarkable beaches, Crete is the island for you. Lastly, the island of Naxos is considered as the most family-friendly island in Greece. You can enjoy great food and company of other travellers, exquisite beaches and crystal clear waters – all in one place.

Pack accordingly

Greece is one of the most stunning countries in the world, but it’s also famous for hot summers, which means that you can pack lightly. A few jeans, t-shirts and outfits for your honeymoon late nights is all you need, because you’ll spend the majority of your time at the beach or in water.

That being said, hot weather usually means that you need to bring plenty of moisturising skincare. Dry weather and humidity tend to take a toll on your skin, especially if you have a skin condition, so make sure you bring your bag of essentials with you.

Be mindful of people

Greece is among the most liberal countries in Southeast Europe, and the gay community is thriving there. Cohabitation, as well as the majority of gay rights, is protected by law. That’s why many gay couples consider Greece for summer vacations – it’s sort of a mecca for gay communities in Europe.

People there are gay-friendly and don’t mind the lifestyle, but the elderly aren’t keen towards is. That being said, the population of younger people outnumbers the elderly significantly so you shouldn’t have any awkward experiences.

Go on adventures

For couples who want to spend an adventurous honeymoon, there are more than enough activities for the likes of both of you. You can go windsurfing on the island of Rhodes, rock-climbing on Kálymnos, bicycle touring over the Peloponnese, kayaking across 10,000 miles of coastline, sailing, cycling… the list goes on and on.

However, there is just as much to see and visit on the mainland. Greece is a historic gem that allows you to go thousands of years back through time. You can visit the Acropolis that overlooks Athens, Greece’s capital; you can visit Delphi, the place where heaven and earth allegedly met; you can visit the ruins of Sparta, an ancient civilization that once rivalled Athens…

Greece has been producing wine for thousands of years, and with its recent boom in wine tourism, there are plenty of tours all across the country. All you have to do is pick the wine you like to drink and visit the region where they make it, and Greece will take care of you. Your honeymoon should be spent in paradise, and Greece is definitely the type of paradise you can find.
